In the run up to Christmas in Ms. O’Reilly’s Fourth Class everyone participated in an ‘Advent Calendar of Kindness’. Each day the class opened a new door and inside was an act of kindness they had to complete, for example – tell someone a joke to make them laugh or write a thank you note to someone who helps you a lot. One of the acts of kindness was to bring in something for someone less fortunate than yourself. We decided to make a hamper for The Soup Kitchen in Dundalk, a local cause. The Soup kitchen had advertised to attempt a reverse advent calendar, buying an item of food each day instead of eating a chocolate each day and making food parcels for those struggling this Christmas. Each child brought in a specific item of food that was listed in the Soup Kitchen’s calendar and every child was generous enough to bring in more than the one item they had been given. By the time we had collected all the food there was enough for two full hampers and a little extra! Here we are with the food hampers before we gave them to St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen.
Merry Christmas from 4th Class.
