Mr. O’Connell’s 3rd Class and Ms. Byrne’s 4th Class recently visited a Traveller Celebration Day where they had the opportunity to learn about some Traveller traditions and crafts including the making of handmade paper flowers. The girls and boys also had the chance to sit with one of the elder ladies and learn about the traditional Cant language. She shared a fascinating insight into her family history and explained that her husband who had a great interest in history, traced some of his family origins back to Iraq. How lovely it was to celebrate our connectedness when she met one of our pupils who is from Iraq. She said her late husband would have been honoured.
