Another exciting event in our Family Learning Initiative took place just before the Easter holidays. Ms O’ Brien’s 4th class have been studying the history of early Christianity in Ireland and invited their parents to join them in exploring two local sites connected with this time, Monasterboice and Old Mellifont Abbey. The trip was led by their teacher and Ms Sloan, who has a background and qualification in archaeology. The students and their teachers spent some weeks doing wonderful preparation for the trip in their class and amazed their parents with their knowledge. Students and parents together completed a quiz sheet at each site and enjoyed each other’s company on a relaxed and sunny day out. Parents commented on their pride in their children, on their own learning on the day and how they will return to visit these sites with the rest of their families. The scones were nice too!
