5th Class were lucky enough to attend the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre at Oldbridge, Co. Meath in April. This field trip complemented the local history project work that they did on the Battle of the Boyne in their classrooms.

The students learned that on the 1st of July 1690, King William III clashed with his father-in-law, King James II, on the River Boyne at Oldbridge, County Meath. They got to see the exact locations of the Battle on the day.

On the battleground itself, in a recently restored eighteenth-century house, now stands the Battle of the Boyne visitor centre. The centre contains original weapons and a laser model of the battlefield. The children really enjoyed the experience and had a really valuable learning experience into this pivotal episode in Irish and European history.
