As part of Science week, Mr O’Connell’s 4th class took part in the inaugural “Meet the Scientist” webinar 2023/24. This series is open to 4th, 5th and 6th class students. Classes get to learn from professionals from a range of different science careers, such a medicine, data science and psychology.
In the first webinar Mr. O’Connell class listened to Professor Louise Allcock who works as zoologist and marine biologist. Louise spoke about her work studying marine life in the deep sea at depths of over 1000 metres. She showed the class pictures of mini submarines known as submersibles as well as remotely assisted vehicles that she uses to do her work. She also spoke about why we need zoologists and marine biologists. The class really enjoyed the webinar. They hope to watch future ones too.
