This is the story about what happened to my Grandad. On 11/1/2020 my Grandad was walking by the school and he wasn’t feeling well. He fell over and everything looked blurry. He felt like he was having a heart attack.

A few people gathered around him to help him out. A lady was walking by when my Grandad fell over. Luckily she new CPR. She tried to buy as much time as she could until the teachers got the defibrillator out of the school. Someone had rang for an ambulance.

Once the ambulance came, they lifted my Grandad into the back of the van and quickly drove him to the hospital. The hospital staff didn’t know who my Grandad was or if he had family. My Nanny was beginning to worry as my Grandad didn’t come home. A clever nurse did some detective work and contacted my uncle.

Grandad was in intensive care for three weeks in a coma. He was connected to a heart machine. We were all worried that he would not make it. He was then taken to a ward for six weeks. I went to visit him. The hospital was not sure whether to send him home or not. Thankfully he was well enough to go visit his family at home.

My Grandad made a great recovery! He is able to go on long walks every day and play pool with me on holidays. I’m so happy the school had a defibrillator! Also, I am  in the health promoting schools group at school and we check that the defibrillator is working each week!
