Six Transition year student from Colaiste His visited the school on Thursday 20th October as part of Mental Health Week. They delivered a programme to the three Fifth Class groups on the topics of self-esteem, bullying and substance abuse (specifically the dangers of smoking, vaping and alcohol).
Research has shown that Substance Use Education from specially trained peers or older students can have greater impact and credibility on younger peers. The TY students have attended five days of training outside of school, delivered by Samantha Teather of IE Programmes. The Peer Education Programme is funded by Dundalk Credit Union and runs in conjunction with guidelines of NE Regional Drugs Task Force and the S.P.H.E. curriculum.
