Yellow Flag Programme
Yellow Flag Programme – Inspection Review Summary
In June 2025, St Joseph’s National School proudly welcomed the Yellow Flag Programme inspection, which recognised the deep commitment of our entire school community to inclusion, equity, and celebrating diversity.
The review highlighted how the values of respect, belonging, and intercultural understanding are meaningfully embedded in our daily school life, from our creative murals and whole-school projects to the work of our Diversity Committees and student voice initiatives.
The inspectors commended the enthusiasm of staff, parents, and pupils in fostering a welcoming environment, as well as our proactive development of an Anti-Racism Policy and celebration of the many cultures and languages that enrich our school.
Members of our Diversity Committees will be travelling to Dublin later this year to represent St Joseph’s at The Yellow Flag Awards Ceremony. On the day, they will proudly receive the Yellow Flag on behalf of our school, recognising all the hard work put in by parents, pupils and staff.
We are delighted that our Yellow Flag status has been renewed, and we invite our school community to read the full report below, which reflects the collaboration, creativity, and inclusion that define St Joseph’s.

Our Diversity Committees
At St Joseph’s, once again we have both a Senior and a Junior Diversity Committee. These groups give pupils across the school the chance to share their ideas, take part in decision-making, and help promote inclusion, respect, and equality in everyday school life.
Senior Diversity Committee
The Senior Diversity Committee is made up of pupil representatives from First Class to Sixth Class. It plays an important role in ensuring children’s voices are heard when shaping how diversity is celebrated in our school. Members meet regularly with staff to discuss ideas, review initiatives such as the Diversity Code, and suggest projects that highlight the many cultures and traditions represented in St Joseph’s. By involving a wide range of classes, the Senior Committee ensures that every age group contributes to building a school environment that values diversity and challenges racism. We look forward to continuing their work in the year ahead and to seeing new projects and initiatives grow from their ideas.

Junior Diversity Committee
Alongside the senior group, our Junior Diversity Committee brings together representatives from our infant classes, ensuring that even our youngest pupils have a voice in promoting kindness, fairness, and inclusion. The Junior Committee focuses on age-appropriate activities, such as simple classroom projects, oral language lessons, and visual displays, which make diversity visible and accessible for younger learners. Their involvement highlights that fostering inclusion begins at the very start of school life. As we move into the new school year, we look forward to seeing the enthusiasm of our infant pupils as they take part in this important work, helping to set a strong foundation for our whole-school commitment to diversity and equality.
